The name Rolls Royce immediately evokes thoughts of luxury and elegance just like the opulent motorcar. While most of us will never own or drive a Rolls…wait, if you own one somebody else will drive you, so let me begin again. While most of us will never experience dressing in black-tie and tails for an evening at the opera and arrive in a Silver Ghost, we can experience the luxurious taste of a cocktail classic.

The Savoy Rolls Royce Cocktail Book

Harry Craddock migrated to London post-prohibition and became the head barman at the iconic Savoy Hotel on the Strand. In the Art Deco American bar he served royalty, the rich and famous film and sports stars.

While there he also managed to pen one of the best cocktail manuals you can find, with gorgeous illustrations, engaging footnotes and more than 700 recipes. This is one of them, a boozy but very drinkable concoction called a Rolls Royce. The color is a beautiful golden hue befitting its name.

Scale
  • 2 oz London Dry Gin
  • 1/2 oz Italian Rosso Vermouth
  • 1/2 oz French Dry Vermouth
  • 1/4 oz Benedictine

A note about ingredients: I prefer Dolin rosso vermouth and Noilly Pratt dry vermouth

  2. Strain into a pre-chilled coupe glass and garnish with a twist of lemon
