New Moon Rising

New Moon Rising 1

New Moon Rising is a bourbon and maple forward riff on my classic Bloody Mary — almost thick enough to chew, yet smooth enough to sip with satisfaction. Forget the overloaded skewers and elaborate kitchen-sink garnishes. A simple sesame cracker is all this drink needs. Spicy and sweet, it’s perfectly fitting beside a plate of pancakes and maple syrup, as it is at the first toast of brunch.

This makes a drink savory and spicy enough, against a hint of sweetness in the background, that it doesn’t have to lean on breakfast. It’s a great beach walkabout or an evening closer if you want to skip the dessert.

Built on a complex foundation of Maker’s Mark 101-proof bourbon whisky, the flavor unfolds with notes of ripe fruit, vanilla, toffee, butterscotch, and nutmeg. Blended into my signature mix of tomato, Worcestershire, orange and maggi seasoning, it develops a creamy texture and a warm, lingering finish. The result is a cocktail with a uniquely rich mouthfeel and depth — a bold new take on a morning classic.

You will ask for another, after all with the New Moon Rising, the day is just beginning.
