A peach margarita defies cliché—because it deserves better. This isn’t just another fruity riff; it’s the charming sister to the mango margarita and every bit as irresistible. It’s light, lush, and absolutely “pretty as a peach”. Call it a sweetheart of a cocktail. And while I won’t say it’s “sweet as a Georgia peach”… well, it absolutely is. You simply must try it—and if you don’t like it, you might just be “as wild as a peach orchard boar”!
Peaches are cocktail naturals, equally at home with bourbon, vodka, rum, or gin. They shine in sangrias and punchbowls, and they’re just as popular south of the border. Peaches grow throughout Mexico, and bartenders there craft some truly delicious creations with tequila and mezcal. This peach margarita is one such gem, discovered along the ever-rewarding Margarita Trail.
Tequila or Mezcal?
Tequila is the standard choice, because it has earned it’s place with quality, young silver and golden aged expressions. Mezcal however, has only recently emerged, gaining popularity outside Mexico. The Oaxacan spirit is made from multiple varieties of agave and baked in underground pits that impart a smokier, more nuanced aroma and flavor. Mezcal or tequila can be used interchangeably in any margarita recipe.
Margaret Who?
Margarita means daisy in Spanish, but no one claims it was named after a flower. Inevitably, they say it’s named after actress, Peggy (Margaret) Lee, dancer Marjorie King or even wealthy socialite Margarita Sames. Then there’s the possibility that the brandy in the original “daisy”, was tossed aside in favor of tequila and became the new “Margarita”.
